I bought shinko tires about a year ago. I have about 5K miles   I keep the tire pressure 32/32 which is the factory-recommended setting.

My wheels are in spec, balanced when installed, the steering adjusted properly.  However the bike is often on the verge of a tank-slapper. That being said, the problem is worse on some surfaces. Any other 650 owners had/have the same problem?

Try lowering the rear suspension a bit, especially if you're not heavy.

If you have a trunk, try riding without it.

After 5k miles they could be out of balance now. As tires wear, they go out of balance. You can do a static balance pretty easy.

I don't see this as a 650 thing. It affects all motorcycles, especially with lower end tires.
Did you check your wheel bearings when you had the wheels off the bike?

I had an unhappy experience with the Shinkos I tried.  Felt very squirrelly and insecure.  I don't consider them to be great tyres.  And as Larry says, at 5k miles they should be well due for replacement.

Actually, the tires show little wear. I did some research before I bought them, overall Shinkos got good reviews.

My describing the problem as a "tank slapper" is inaccurate, It would be better described as a slight shimmy, not always evident.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions/comments.

Just out of curiosity, do you notice the slight shimmy more often in colder conditions? If those tires don't show a lot of wear after 5K, the compound could be more on the stiffer side giving you that squirrelly feeling if not warm enough. Especially if you are noticing it vary with road surface changes. I used to have a similar feeling when I used to run the Dunlop 404s back in the day on my '84 650 before switching to the GT501s. I don't have much experience with the Shinkos myself but they're known for being cheap not necessarily long lasting.

I would also echo what Bob H mentioned and see what your wheel bearings are feeling like. It's always a good choice to check them during tire maintenance.

Thanks everyone,  I've been Mia lately. I will have to try different tires
