83 cb650sc. My rear brake pedal seems really low. I replaced the pads when i changed the tires a few months ago. The return spring was noisy and rusty so i replaced it with a non-oem one but it seems i have to press down really far to feel the resistance on the pedal from the pads. The adjusting nut seems ok, any more and get start to get wheel stoppage. Anyone else have this issue?

Can you pull the pedal off the spline and rotate it upwards by one tooth?

I don't have your model - but most of the Honda from that time period have a reference mark on the brake shaft - pedal like the late model 750 manual shows here.

There are similar marks on shift linkage, that is for ballpark placement during assembly. You would have to adjust it if wearing different boots and need to change to fit your ergos

Check the indicator on the rear drum for approximate remaining shoe life.

If the dot lines up, leave it there for now. First, adjust the stop bolt and nut below the brake pedal so the pedal at rest is at an angle that suits your foot position, which depends on your leg length.

Then turn the round nut on the rod at the back of the arm on the rear wheel drum. It sits against the barrel in the arm once every 180 degrees. Make it as tight as you can without applying any braking force.

That should give you the least pedal travel before the brake applies.
