My carb cleaning continued

Yes, I'm removing the carbs to clean, and install richer jets. "C" means California, (which means they are jetted lean)

I've read/watched Youtube video's before I attempted it, and got conflicting info, from very easy to very hard. Well it has been easy so-far, my next move is to remove the bracket that holds the throttle and choke cables. The only thing that had me confused at first was the voltage regulator attached to the airbox on the left side. Once I removed it, I could slide the airbox back far enough to clear the carbs.

Just to mention it, it's not the C in SC that means California.

The standard model's full number is CB650SC A.

If yours is a Cali bike, the full model number is  CB650SC AC.

All Nighthawks are SC models, which stands for Sport Custom.

My advise: Take many pictures as you go. Throttle cable routing, many views of carbs from all angles, consider jetting richer, all carb. bikes are too lean, seperate all carbs and replace O-rings in fuel tubes between carbs.

You need JIS bits. $17 for a set on Ebay for #1, #2, and #3. There is no such thing as a phillips screw on your bike.

Watch any and all YouTube videos on your exact bike.

Thanks everyone. When I was a teen, we had never heard of JIS screws, and we replaced all the case JIS screws.

When rebuilding your carbs, get a small plastic case with dividers to use to separate your separate carb pieces, saves mixed or lost parts.

Another tip I used was when I watched the you tube on rebuilding carbs, I did it right in front of my computer and watched a part of the video, paused it, then redid that part of the video on my carb, Then I watched more, paused more and worked my carb until all was completed. It really helped having the ability to "rewind" the action as many times as I needed - HA. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the advice. I still haven't removed the carbs, blame our crazy California weather and work. I *might* be able to remove the carbs this Sunday, but I'm not holding my breath.

Larry, thanks for the clarification, it now makes more sense. I can hardly wait to get the job done, I'm tired of the lean condition which seems to mostly affect throttle just off of idle.
