Mirrors

I have the stock black mirrors, and they are very difficult to adjust.

There is a black plastic cap on the back of each mirror that hides a 7mm nut. I loosened the nut, then tried lubricating the ball joint with dry lube, no difference. Next thought was seperating the mirror body from the stalk by removing the nut, that didn't work. I don't want to hammer on the bolt holding the mirror on, any suggestions?
Hopefully someone has already been there, done that.

i was just riding last sunday and noticed that. one of mine is missing the cap so I might replace both. easy cheap upgrade if you dont mind it not being stock. anyone with new mirror suggestions?
