QuoteSwingarm has cast loop section chain goes through. Chain is endless. HOW??

Chain is run through swingarm at the assembly plant, then master link is quad staked, can't tell the diff. I used a MotionPro chain tool when I replaced my chain, the diff is the press end piece - in my case was for hollow master link pins, but you can have a quad stake piece.

That's really the only way.

This used 92 Nighthawk I just got has a new chain and sprockets...The good.  Has a clip masterlink...The bad.

Trying to decide if I want to get a rivet link.  I've had the tool for years.

How does everyone feel about clip links??

The chain I took off my NC700X had a clip link and had not caused any trouble at all.  The DID chain that I put back on it also had a clip link which seemed well designed and not a risk.  Personally, I think it's more possible to mess up a rivet than it would be to install a clip link badly.

If I had the tool I'd be tempted to use it. I riveted mine beginning of past season, all good.

Cheers..

So far parts in: float bowl gaskets, jet kit, 4 new turn signals, EBC sintered front pads, and centerstand.

I've got the centerstand on, rear TS so far. Have to extend the wires from the left one.

Got distracted with leafblower I had to put a piston and ring in.

Got all winter.

Cool... I had my 84 in the basement for several years during the reassembly, still have a tire stain on the carpet... basement is due for remodeling though...
I couldn't help to start up the bike after the engine rebuild, just for a sec to hear it run... bike started fine but something was living in the mufflers and got "exhausted" all over basement.

So, riddle me this.  Carbs are out, all 4 pilot jets are completely clogged.
How did it run and idle with the choke off???
I ran around about 200 miles with carb cleaner in it and it kept getting better.  Still cold blooded and lean, low power down low, but ran.

I've always read that the sign that your pilots are clogged is it won't idle witout choke.

Spark plugs were wrong type with tiny gaps.

Should be a rocket come spring.

Prior owner likely adjusted the idle speed so it would run at that RPM without dying.
I learned that trick back in the 1980's when I picked up a Honda 750 that had been stored. It is a natural solution to an engine that barely runs, barely idle, sounds like going to die but speeds up with you give it some throttle. So you speed up the idle.

The problem is, the engine is designed to run off the small pilot jets, then as you open the throttle you expose the passages for the main jets - and they are all supposed to be contributing to the fuel mixture.  When the small jets are clogged, it may "run" off the other jets but at full throttle it is actually running lean because of the restriction to the orchestra of passageways.

OK. so it's possible.  Thanks.
I might have a *slightly* high idle when I start it.🤣

Bob, I too used that video and it worked for me.  Until that gasket change I was only comfortable changing the oil and filter.

changed oil & filter and replaced front brake pads.  I had worn the pads down to metal!  zoiks.  Much nicer now!

Carbs are in, bike runs way better. (just short run, still in basement)

Changed fork oil to 15 wt. Maxima and added a 1 inch spacer.

Next:  brake fluid, install EBC HH pads, and carb. sync.

Almost done!
