Carb adjustment problem?

 Hi,
I have a '85 Honda 650sc Nighthawk (With carbs)

When I bought it 16 months ago, it ran great except for a stumble just off off of idle. I had to engage the clutch at about 2500 to 3000 rpm to take off, which understandably bothered me. I then self-installed a jet kit from Carbjetkits, which cured the stumble.

However, (In Southern Calif) the weather lately has been very hot and muggy, and a slight stumble has reappeared, but only when the engine is fully warmed up.
Coming from a 2-stroke background, I'm not sure if this is a lean or rich condition. BTW, when I last checked the plugs, (outside only, I know I need to check all 4) they looked great.

NOTE: When I reassembled the carbs, I adjusted the pilot jets per the factory service manual. I haven't touched them since then. I know I need to adjust them and sync the carbs. That being said, It has a very smooth idle, but I believe the pilot jets have no influence on the idle circuit
Since I'm sure I'm going to need to adjust the pilot jets, I've been researching tools to adjust them, and the design and prices are all over the place. Anyone bought one and can recommend it?

My experience is it was too rich in the heat of summer.  I can't get to my pilot screws without removing the carbs.

I started at 3 turns out, dropped to 2, dropped to 1.5 and going to try 1 yet.

With the richer main plus the lifted needle it's too rich at idle.

That's the only problem with carbjetkits.com.  No recommendations for pilot screw setting.

Now you're supposed to do the idle drop procedure but I can't, again because I can't touch the pilots while carbs are installed.

You might have more luck on the 650, more room under the carbs.

If you still have the limiter tabs (even if they're cut short) you can push on them with a long screwdriver.
Or you can wear thermal gloves like I do, and adjust them with a stubby screwdriver.

Mollusc,

When I rebuilt the carbs, I removed the limiter tabs. My hands are too big to adjust with gloves, even adjusting 1 and 4 carbs it's impossible with a stubby screwdriver.

Pete,

I'll bet Honda made it impossible/difficult to adjust the pilot jets on your bike on purpose. Why? The feds.
