I purchased a Nighthawk 750 new in 2003, outfitted it with Givi hard cases, and rode it cross-country for six years before selling it in 2009. It remains one of my favorite bikes ever and I'm considering getting another, in either 91-03 form or the more refined 700SC modes from the mid-80's.

This time, however, I want to build it as close to spec as possible without the concessions I made with my 03.

How much in common do these two iterations have with one another? Are any parts interchangeable? For example, is it possible to integrate the older SC's shaft drive assembly onto the newer bike using the wheel, swing arm, etc? Does the SC's black chrome header/pipes fit the later 750?

I've also read that the older SC had far greater charging capacity, making it better for running accessories like heated riding gear. If this is true, can these parts be used to upgrade the later 750?

Very little will cross over between the later CB750 and the CB700S.  The engines rotate in opposite directions and the transmission output is obviously 90° different between the two.  I believe the spacing between the exhaust ports is the same but the frame mounting points are different.
The charging systems are the same, I think.  Certainly the one on the 700S isn't great.  If you want upgrades in that area, look at Rick's Motorsports for aftermarket regulators and maybe alternators.

I have the later 750 and have no problem running heated gear.
The occasional really cold rides I will run heated vest, heated gloves, and heated socks all from a controller by Warm-n-Safe.
I also run 2 sets of added lights (Skene + some very bright spot lights down low), a Garmin XT GPS, Dashcam front and rear (Innov) and a TPMS (Fobo) running at all times with USB charge to that Cell phone running the TPMS app.
If I hit the horn, it is a Fiamm El Grande running on dedicated relay because it pulls a lot of amps.
Never in 12 years of ownership of this bike have I blown a fuse or had any indication of insufficient charging. My USB Adaptor has voltmeter display. IT Is usually around 12.2 to 12.7 before starting the bike, and as soon as it is even idling it is in the 13's and will go up to 14 volts at higher RPM.
My last battery was replaced at 8 years just because I don't trust them after that. Running a Yuasa gel.
