Hello! To celebrate Valentine's day this year (as a bachelor) I got myself a non-running 1985 Nighthawk 650 (in candy wineberry red, of course!). the first two things I wanted to do were remove and drain the gas tank, and remove and replace the battery. I've found myself utterly stumped by the latter. I've removed the seat and side panels, and have unscrewed the "gate arm" that keeps the battery in place, but everything is seized up. No matter how much I grip, yank, swear, batter, the thing won't budge out of its little compartment. Is there something dumb that I'm missing here? Please advise.

I don't own your model, but doing a search on Ebay shows the bare metal box that holds the battery

I would get a putty knife and hammer into this gap to separate it. Look for any hidden fasteners on that part above the lower tray.

I would find the negative battery cable and disconnect one end of it.

I hope you got the battery out.
