Well who ever posted the fix for the bouncing tachometer 1996 750 Nighthawk was a great post!I just fixed my kids bike  had the problem. The top spring smaller than a dime, comes unsoldered from it's inside post that connects to the coil of the unit. After searching around for a couple of days,on the web I finally found the post here on this site.Believe it or not I was ready to send it Pennsylvania there's a place there called Powl's Tachometer been in business for 100 years! Was looking at $200-$300 to fix.Plus I'm on the west coast.Pretty tedious to solder what was wrong, but after 3 attempts I got it!!

Using the search feature, I think the solution was this:
Quote from: 77tarheel on Oct 28, 2022, 06:29 PMThis is a common issue with these era Nighthawks. I had a '93 750 with the problem. It's usually a cold solder joint on the clockspring in the tach. I repaired mine a couple years ago, but sold the bike earlier this year. Here is my write-up on how to do it: https://www.jgaryward.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/2TachFix.pdf

I'm glad the write-up helped.

Wow, Just looked up Powl's since you mentioned it's in PA.  It's even close to me!

If mine dies, it would be worth $300 to me to have a pro do it if he promises it will be 100% after.

Just looking at busting into the tach in one of those ways is ugly. Then the delicate repair.

Then the hoping the needle is in the same orientation on the shaft.
