I have painted the entire engine before. You must be very careful to tape off everything that you don't want painted. It is a time consuming endeavor watch out for over-spray and in the fins it is hard to try and scuff up the metal to get the paint to stick. Make sure the bike has been washed off so that the fin surface will let the paint adhere to the metal.I did wrinkle black a Kawasaki 900 engine before, I painted it then fired it up and it dried very quick and the wrinkle black turned out great looking. Good luck if you decide to paint your fins and be careful afterwards to not power wash the engine or you may blast the new paint off.
