I've just bought and installed the first new streetbike tires in a very long time. it's on my 85 650 Nighthawk, the tires are Shinko 777's. Wow, what a difference!

I purchased a set of Pirelli Sport Demons and waiting to get them installed. Bit the bullet and got them through eBay from Italy.  Came quick printed this year, and in good shape!  tires on the bike now are from 2009 and 2010 and though they appear ok and probably are, I'm sticking to short trips around town

Tyres from 2009 are NOT okay.  After about 5 years, they have lost so much elasticity that they no longer conform to the road very well.  At 13 years you may as well just ride on the rims.

"Stored properly" is a crucial part of that examination.
And 12-13 years is still far beyond anything that was mentioned as a reasonable age to ride on.

Agree with all. Still, its hard to stay off the bike during this extended warm weather.  The bike is getting new shoes in a week or two, and it probably wont see any road-time until next spring but if I'm lucky I can sneak it at least one other weekend.

My last two sets of rubber have been Avon.  First the Storm and then the Spirit.  Both seemed just fine to me. The Spirit which I'm having removed today only got 6,000 miles on them.  The rear is worn smooth on the left side and the right still has a good amount of tread.  NOT A MISALIGNMENT.  I rip out of left hand turns way more than right handers so this is how I wear my tires.  If I could spin them around every so often to even out the wear I would do that and get more miles out of them.
I'm interested to find out the difference in a new brand.  This is my first bike and the Avon's are the only tires I've ridden on so I don't "know" how different tire brands/treads may feel.  I'm not sure I'll feel a difference other than old worn tire to new but we shall see.

Bridgestone T-31s and T-32s have a great reputation on the ST Owner's forum.
