I'm knackered... Zzzzz...

So I bought this Nighthawk and it came with no rear indicators, although I had 2 from my Nighthawk #1 that's still in bits.

Anyhoo I looked at the rear end of the bike and thought, man, I can't stand that bit of mudguard behind the plate. I always prefer nice clean lines and no mess.

I started by scoring the plastic which I wanted to remove with an art knife and then I took the rear end to bits, took that piece of plastic off which holds the original licence plate and got the dremel out with a cutting disc on and simply cut it off.

I then drilled 4 small holes and bolted on a tail tidy. I've installed 2 new indicators to the rear.

I have a new plate made up and I am just waiting on a licence plate LED light which I will have to drill the tail tidy and fit, and my indicator relay to hopefully make them all flash correctly.

If by any change I manage all that then I'll take her for a MOT to see if she can become road worthy and then road legal.

This was the tail tidy I bought:

I've sanded down 2 20mm reflectors down to small 10mm ovals which I will stick to the plate as it's a legal requirement, and the new plate I have is 7x5"so a lot smaller than the one that came on the bike, I'd say almost half.

This totally freshens up the rear end and I really like it so far. Be great when the plate is on, all lights work etc.

The bike didn't want to rev again today, like spluttering and protesting. It's had carbs cleaned, new plugs, so god knows what is going on with it, but one step and one mod at a time.

Not sure how popular this is for peeps with nighthawks? So if anyone has any questions, fire away.

P.S. that yellow bike is my neighbours 1989 FZ600. I am hoping the Nighthawk will take it on the road lol the NH is a lot heavier and it doesn't really have track geometry, but then again the NH does have a better rider lol  ;D

I can't say that it's a common mod.  I've never seen anybody do it, that's for sure.  I can't say that it appeals to me all that much, but these things are always matters of personal taste.

Yep I appreciate that Mollusc, it's like art, what one likes someone else won't, it's subjective.

No doubt the rear mudguard is more beneficial to keeping the bike and rider cleaner, but I am motivated by clean lines like that of MotoGP bikes etc. Besides if we all liked the same thing then everyone would be riding Nighthawks  ;D
