New Forum New Rules

First off, thank you all admins and others who kept the NH Forum alive, I'm sure it takes a lot of resources.
I have 2 questions though: a) when one logs in there's the option to stay logged in for some length of time, I selected "forever" which is default but I still need to log in every time, and b) what is the purpose of this number of posts vs ranking thing, never seen this on the old forum nor other forums?

I've seen the number of posts count on every forum.  Rankings are pretty common and are just a bit of fun.  Some areas of the forum do have minimum user post limits though.
Staying logged in works fine for me on all my machines, on multiple browsers, and on my phone.  You may be rejecting the site's login cookie.

Yeah... so I guess that's the part I don't get... why limit access based on number of posts... basically a "forum" is a place for open discussion and ideas exchange... whereas access limitation kinda goes against openness.
Even with the forum being this new, there was this user the other day asking where the marketplace was, but... alas, he didn't have the number up yet...

Because it's supposed to be a community.  People posting a single ad and never coming back don't develop the group.  They can be an administrative hassle, and possible security risks.

I believe the last forum had the same thing.  I remember trying to post something for sale early on and was told I couldn't until I had 25 posts I believe.   So I posted for a week or two and then posted what I wanted to sell.
I like the community aspect.  Keep the scabs out.

Yep.  Most forums are structured this way.
I actually lowered the threshold and the seniority steps here, figuring that it might take a while to get this place going.

Well, I just blocked our first spammer today!  That's gotta be some kind of unofficial milestone in the development of a  forum, right?
