Love the one your with.
The devil on my shoulder tempts me as well, but when I see Law Enforcement tucked into a hiding spot and I am only going 10 over the speed limit, I am grateful to have sold my fast bikes.

Also the ergos on the Nighthawk fit me perfectly. So I remind myself to enjoy the ride, and stay present.

Passed a Trooper Yesterday sitting along road in a parking lot. No speed trap, just sitting. I was at least 10 over, didn't care.

Wish I could get that last 20 HP and torque out of this one.🤣

I had an extremely well set up Yamaha FZ-1 a few years ago. It was way too easy to speed on. I was both surprised with, and proud of, myself for selling it. I was content with the '83 GS1100E I'd had for almost 10 yrs. It was fast but not as quick to get up to crazy, but very "entertaining", speeds. :)
Last Winter, I decided that the 1100 was a heavier and more top heavy bike than what I really wanted and sold it. I then thought long and hard about what bike might fill all my needs. based upon my experience, I decided to look for a really nice 700S. I found one last month and purchased it. I'm now in the process of improving it's all around performance with the goal of increasing my overall satisfaction with it.
The End

In the past I went from 83 650 NH, to 85 V65 Sabre, to a Blackbird, to an ST1300, to a FJ-09, now back to a 750 Nighthawk.

that's 230k miles on liter class bikes.

Im just looking for a little more power.  On level ground its fine, but climbing hills here it's a bit lacking.

That extra 20 HP and torque is what I need. Just trying to wrap my head around the negatives.

Tires are really bad.  I used to get 180/55-17 rear tires for $100 delivered.  Part of that is Covid supply issues, although I'm still waiting for prices to drop. Probably won't.

More pondering...

I still haven't done it. Despite CB1100's all around me starting at $5k.

Ive got more power out of my 92, causing my clutch to slip this spring.  New clutch, no more slip, making good power from 2k rpm all the way to rev limiter.

Did steering head bearings over this past winter also.

Will hopefully continue to resist temptation.

Yeah, that was also my experience after following your recommendation to re-jet while cleaning my carbs last year.

I am about to set off on an early morning Sunday ride with no traffic up north in the canyons and lakes.

I have had faster bikes in the past, but today I have confidence that I am not going to be hauling ass TOO FAST into a corner, or a deer.
I am running great tires (expensive, Dunlop Mutants) and have confidence in them (2nd set).

Its been quite some time since I last logged on, so I thought I'd revisit some of the treads I had responded to. This being one of them. Sadly, I have a different answer for the thread's topic. For me, it (ie. Riding) has stopped. Last December I was diagnosed with some really bad things, severe osteoporosis being one. When I asked my doctor if I could still ride. His response was that my bones were so bad that he wouldn't be surprised if I broke a hip and fell while walking. So, my 700S sets in my garage, covered, alongside my GT750. I haven't decided to sell either one of them, yet, because I'm holding on to the hope that some day I'll be able to ride again.
Enjoy it while you can, folks. ;)

Sucks. I'm 68 and see some friends passing away.
The last one that passed (cancer) had a great attitude that we are not the body.
We are a spiritual being, pushing the body around like a shopping cart.

Drain the carbs, if you haven't already. If not, see if they will start up, run them, then drain the carbs.
Also check the title on the bikes (and other vehicles). If they are just in your name, you may want to consider "Willie - or - (wife, son, friend)" so that it isn't a pain in the ass for others to re-home the vehicles.

I was looking at a trailer, turned out the guy passed away - and family trying to sell it. Requires death cert to DMV and a form filled out by heir to state the assets are not in probate etc. If it was "or" wife, they could have simply sold it.

Yeah, that's the plan. The drummer for Rush was an avid motorcyclist, and was quoted saying he hoped something else would kill him first (before a bad bike accident) and he got his wish a few years ago and passed away from something other than the motorcycle.

That sucks. It's coming for all of us, we don't know when. Ride while you can, as much as you can.

The younger generations are not getting into bikes in the numbers we were. It's dying out.

Good advice guys and I appreciate the responses. The other "problem" I was informed of was aggressive Stage 4 prostate cancer that may have spread to my sacrum (ie. tail bone). I started chemo 1/1/24 and had 56 proton radiation treatments this past Spring. Chemo is a daily activity which consists of taking a pill. This will continue for another year and a half. Worst side effects are hot flashes, mood swings and restless leg syndrome. I maintain a positive attitude and believe in the power of prayer, good Karma and paying it forward. Overall, I feel surprisingly good, thank God.
As for the idea re: the title to my toys, I met with a pro just last week about setting up trusts for all of my stuff. Good advice, good buddy!
Thanks again.

Getting your affairs in order is something us older folks need to do - kind of morbid but there is an anxiety reduction aspect. One less thing to worry about.

The DMV is such a pain in the ass, I have dealt with trust assets with my elderly parents when they passed. At the end of the day, if there is an "or" in the title, it avoids a lot of issues if the surviving named person on the title can just sign off and sell the vehicle. Me "or" wife "or" son, etc.
