Vintage Biker

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the site. While I have been rebuilding and riding vintage bikes for years this is my first shafty. 84 NH 700. After purchasing a bike, I like to go through it and service what needs attention. The bike has 25K miles on it and runs and rides great. My question: I know you can lubricate the drive shaft side of the universal joint (UJ) spline without removing the universal joint but does the UJ slide off the output shaft so that that spline can be lubricated. Thanks for the assist. Larry

The engine side of the u-joint doesn't usually need lubrication since the wheel side of it also has a spline.  I guess you could pull back the rubber gaiter over the u-joint and apply grease to the splines after you take the driveshaft out if you wanted to.
Refer to Chapter 13 in your Honda Service Manual, which tells you how to remove the driveshaft and service it, including the damper cup which often gets neglected.  The best way to do this is to remove the entire final drive assembly and slide the driveshaft out of the frame tube.
