what is a 700sc engine worth ? no carbs, exhaust , or starter. it turns free. i have a chance to pick one up close to me. thanks.

There really is no set value. You want to pay as little as possible, and the seller wants to get as much as possible.

What matters is how much it will cost you or save you compared to your other options. Plus, is there any warranty?

Remember if you can't hear it run, expect the worse, condition of crank, pistons scarred, cams rounded off, ETC. Parts are expensive any more and getting harder to find what you need. Bid on it like it may be a basket case, and you may get lucky if it turns out OK.

 If the engine turns over, and you can manage a compression check, (even with your finger in the spark plug hole, and it passes) I would dicker with him, say $100? Also, check the condition of the plugs, that might be a make-or-break moment.

thank you all for the info . the guy was going to junk it for scrap. i offerd $100 and he said just take out of my barn. it turns ok at the crank nut . i will keep it in case of parts.
