1993 Honda 750 nighthawk

Just got a 1993 750 nighthawk. Does anyone know if a center stand can be added? The brackets seem to be there for the stand. The bike only has a side stand. Thanks, Scott Jones.

You can add a centerstand to it.

I was hoping so. The parts catalog shows 50600-mw3-810 for the main stand kit. Do you think this will fit on my bike? I have the brackets underneath.

You can find these on Ebay, 1991-2003 will fit. Make sure they give you the spring which is a pain to stretch into place.
A trick is to shove coins in between the coils of the spring as you bend it back and forth.
That makes the spring long enough to hook into place.

Put the bike on the center stand, stretches the spring and the coins will fall out.

Thanks for the information. My tachometer isn't working. I see it does not use a cable but it's electric. I assume there is a sensor that sends a signal to the tach? Any ideas on this. By the way I ordered a repair manual on Ebay today.

I think the tach failure is a pretty common issue.  Repair involves opening up the gauge and fixing a solder joint, and I believe there are a number of YouTube videos and other guides on how to do it.
The tach impulse signals come directly from the ignition system -- there's no separate sensor.  This means that if your bike is running properly, the tach signal is working.

I recently purchased a center stand from a Honda dealer for my 96 NH 750 and it is a real Honda center stand. It had a few mini rust pit marks so I returned it and the dealer sent it back to Honda (or the warehouse) and they checked the other 5-6 they had on hand and they all had the rust pits. After all they probably have been made over 20 ago - HA. I have not installed it yet but will use the coin trip as recommended.

Good morning. Scott here. I have a small engine oil leak. It seams to be coming from being the engine cover on the left side. This cover allows access to the chain sprocket area. There is also a big black cap that says "Don't Open" Any idea if the cover can come off without removing the black cap & why does the cap say "Don't Open" ? Any ideas on this. Thanks.

As long as the bike is upright, you can remove the cap. It's basically a second engine oil opening.

Sometimes you can wiggle the sprocket cover off, or you can remove the cap if necessary.

Ok Thanks for that. Any idea what is behind the cover that could be leaking? Shift shaft or oil pressure sensor?

Ive had my sprocket cover off a few times. Removing the Don't open cover is necessary to do it. Just screw it back on right away so no dirt falls in.

Are you 100% sure it is engine oil - not chain lube?  put a piece of cardboard under it, see if it is a constant drip when the bike is parked. Next time you come back from a ride, put a clean piece of cardboard under it. Feel the viscosity of this oil, figure out if it may be chain lube. That is not a common area for any sort of engine oil leak.

You may want to pull your air filter and check for any build up of fluid (from crankcase breather tube). I have never heard of it manifesting near the sprocket, but you need to rule things out.

It is totally OK to remove the sprocket cover, and I would do that right now and see what is going on. You may have decades of oily crud accumulated from the chain.

The theory I have heard about that "do not remove" cap, is that the 1991-2003 Nighthawk 750 engine evolved from prior year models.
That access hole is something left over, like a genetic anomaly from the dinosaurs.
Just ignore it. It is a "hole to nowhere"

With any oil leak, on any vehicle, the first step is to clean all of the areas in the vicinity. Clean them really good, so you can easily see the path of any oil and trace it back to the source of leak if it is not already obvious.
