I have a old worn, (but not worn out) leather jacket which need the zipper replaced. I've been told to try a laundry, but I'm not sure that is the best option.

I was having a problem with the slider on my leather riding jacket.  Went to a drycleaner that also does tailoring and they were able to fix it without having to change the zipper, but they would have also been able to do the whole thing if needed.

Often the cleaners use a professional to do the leather work.
Or you can directly contact a leather shop, like a saddle maker.

Either way, it takes a pro with the proper sewing equipment to fix your problem.

what is the issue with the zipper? What is your symptom? I have fixed zippers that appeared to be toast by gently clamping the sides of the "closure thing" using pliers. That makes it like new, and once again will join the 2 sides together. There are videos on youtube that I followed. I clamped mine too much with the pliers and made it hard to move up and down, but functions perfectly again.

If yours has torn from the garment that is different.

If my jacket zipper was toast and couldn't be easily repaired I would take that as a sign from the universe to get a high-viz textile jacket, which is what I ride in.

Just had a new zipper installed on another leather jacket, wife's found a shoe repair shop run by this "seasoned" guy, perfect job. This is becoming a lost art anymore...

Hi,

The jacket is having it's zipper replaced and I will pick it up Friday. Thanks for all the helpful advice. I took it to a shoe repair place, and he has good reviews on Yelp. The zipper was broken near the end. A tooth was no longer attached near tne end.
