To the best of our knowledge, there are still no Nighthawks in Antarctica.

Hello all!

I just joined this group to gain some knowledge on my latest addition to the garage. I found a 1984 Honda Nighthawk S with 3421 original miles through a friend that took a few months to acquire and sort out some title challenges. This bike was apart of a collection and was stored indoors for most of its life. Records indicate it was maintained by a dealership thru the years since the early 1990s and although the bike does run great, it does need some love as it runs rich at idle and has some minor surface rust in the tank. Brakes and clutch have fresh fluid in them, but they are soft from the 40yo hoses. My plan is to spend the next year performing what I a call soft-resto, new tires, and rebuilding carbs, forks, front brake master cylinder and calipers, clutch master cylinder and slave, updating hoses and o-rings, and whatever is need of repair or replacing. This will be a ridden bike once done as I am adding another time machine to my garage of bikes. This will be my second S as my first was in 1986 when I purchased a "left over" '85 model in Sacramento CA. I put 30k trouble free miles on it before moving to a liter bike to cope with long rides with the wife. Really looking forward to this journey!

Amazing to find that time capsule! Congratulations.
It will be worth the effort.

That's an '84 engine and most of the panels are 1984, but the tank is 1985 (or has been repainted at some point).

As I get into this bike, you are spot on! The tank has been painted and has a janky decal on it instead of it being under a clear coat like the cowls and side panels are. As I learn more from you all and discover options, it may need a complete re-spray and decal kit.
